4 Reasons to Visit Lima

There are so many wonders which South America in general, and Peru in particular, offer that most tourists overlook Lima, Peru’s capital. They usually use this city as a stop-over to other, more interesting destinations. Recently, however, there has been a renewed interest in this ancient, intriguing place.

Located on the coast of Peru, Lima was officially established in 1535, but has been occupied by people for much longer.  Given its long history, it’s not really surprising that there are several interesting things to see and experience here. Let’s look at the top 5 reasons to visit Lima.

1 - The Food

One of the best things about Lima is the food. People staying in a luxury hotel in Lima, Peru often venture out solely to discover the cuisine. There are several interesting dishes here, including the famous ceviche. The region’s cuisine has been influenced by the Spanish, African, Chinese, Japanese, and other such cultures. This has led to a unique cuisine that’s fast gaining popularity in the world.

2 – The Architecture

As we mentioned before, the city has been around for several centuries and the architecture reflects that. A luxury hotel in Lima, Peru would be very close to the historical district, which was deemed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There are several stunning buildings here, including the Monastery of San Francisco, Lima Cathedral, and Torre Tagle Palace.

3 – Ruins

While the city might have been officially established in 1535, people have inhabited it for much longer. The Huaca Pucllana and the Pachacamac, which is a little away from Lima, are evidence of this. These sites were built by the Lima culture people, who lived here at around 200 to 700 AD. While Huaca Pucllana is in the middle of the city, it still stands as a testament to the resolve of that ancient culture. Not far from a luxury hotel in Lima, Peru, this site is a worthwhile place to visit.

4 – Museums

If you want to explore the ancient cultures that inhabited Lima and Peru, visiting the museums might be a great idea. They’re not located far from the luxury hotel in Lima, Peru but offer an interesting glimpse of the past. The Larco museum isn’t something you should miss. It holds the largest collection of pre-Columbian art and artifacts in the World.

There are several other places to visit, including the wonderful Miraflores and Barranco districts. So next time you step into Lima set some time aside to explore.
