Some interesting FAQs about gold jewellery that no one told you

We should be eternally grateful to the person who discovered the metal gold and told us the way to use it to adorn ourselves. It was in some 1848, which marked the rise of the California gold rush. Until then, gold has been seen everywhere in the world. Today, gold is a staple for every piece of jewellery and we have always believed in giving the right information to our clients when it comes to buying an expensive piece of jewellery. Our jewellery store in Kelowna will help you know a lot of things about different gems and jewellery. Check out the following.

What is the difference between 10k, 14k, 18k and 24 k jewellery?

The K here stands for karat and we are all aware that the better the karat, the more will be the quality of the gold. Karat defines the purity of gold. As pure gold is soft and malleable, jewellery might mix it with other alloys to make it durable and harder. The higher the karat, the better the purity of gold. For example, a 14 k gold ring will have only 41% of gold in it. The higher the karat, the more will be the price because the price of the gold is based on the percentage of pure gold.

What would be the difference between 10KT and 10CT gold?

Actually, there is no difference and it is just how it is written. Mostly CT is used to define the quality of a gemstone. In some areas, the ‘karat’ is written as ‘carat’ and abbreviated as KT and CT respectively.

What is the natural colour of gold?

Pure gold is yellow. The higher the karat you pick up, the more yellowish hue it will have.

What is rose gold then?

Rose gold is also called pink gold sometimes and it is an alloy created by adding copper to pure gold. This results in a pinkish metallic tint. Rose gold rings and wedding sets saw a spike in the year 2015 and it is still in demand. If you are coordinating with your partner, a rose gold wedding set is perfect for it.

What is white gold then?

This is mostly developed to imitated platinum. Platinum is very expensive and not everyone can afford to buy it. Thus, white gold is nothing but gold jewellery plated in rhodium to make it look white. This plating enhances the shine of the jewellery and gives it a harder surface as well. People who want to wear gold, but do not like the yellow colour can opt for these white gold pieces.
