Printing is a daily part of our lives, we print documents for our business and to collect personal memories. These machines that surround our office tables were a epiphany moment at their time of release. Our offices are filled with printing machines and that is exactly why, you should be aware of the following facts-

1)      The first printer is over 45 years old

The laser printer was invented by Xerox in 1969 and was built from a modified photocopier. This 45 year old machine has been simplifying our lives ever since.

2)      Your new printer comes with half filled ink

When you buy a new heavy duty printer, the cartridge that comes with it is only half filled. Companies indulged in production of printers do so to keep the ink from spilling while shipment and to encourage you buy ink quicker. The profit on selling a printer is nominal and the real revenue is generated from the cartridge filling.

3)      It can produce high level heat

A LaserJet printer can fuse up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat is what melts the ink and sticks to the paper. This is why your colour laser printer consumes twice as much as energy as your running desktop and that’s a lot.

4)      World’s smallest printer weighs only 1.5 pounds

Yes, you read it right. The world’s smallest printer has dimensions 2x2x11 inches and weighs only 1.5 pounds.

5)      Edible Printed Sushi

Using edible ink and an inkjet printer, Chef Homaro Cantu of Moto in Chicago has been printing out sushi entrees.  His customer calls him a cross between a mad scientist and a gourmet chef – we just think this is printing innovation. Imagine going to restaurants for printed hot dogs and cheese.

6)      3D Printers in Space

NASA has been planning to send 3D printers to its space stations in order to manufacture replacement parts. This would act as a security backup.

7)      World’s fastest Printer

World’s fastest printers can print up to 70 pages per minute and can produces twice heat as much as a normal LaserJet printer.

8)      Your cartridge is also a computer

In each inkjet cartridge there is a tiny computer chip that monitors the ink level in the cartridge. When the ink gets low it will prompt you to either replace it, buy a new one, or buy a new one and replace it or you won't be able to print anything
