What Is Sustainable Energy?

Posted by Singaporenews on December 12th, 2015

Sustainable energy is gained from non-exhaustible resources such as wave power, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, tidal power, hydroelectricity and bioenergy. The provision of this kind of energy can meet the energy needs of the present society without influencing future generations to serve their needs.

Renewable energy and energy efficiency are considered as the twin pillars of sustainable energy. Sustainable energy can differ from other renewable energy terminology such as alternative energy by focusing on the ability of an energy source that can provide energy continuously. It allows some pollution of the environment as long as these pollution are not sufficient to influence the further use of the source for a long time. It also differs from low-carbon energy which is sustainable only by not adding the CO2 in the atmosphere. Sustainable energy emphasizes more of the element of sustainable of the energy rather than other aspects.

Renewable energy technologies are important to sustainable energy due to they contribute to reduce dependence on fossil fuel resources, provide opportunities for decreasing greenhouse gases and world energy security.

Energy sustainability will not only need changes in the way that energy is supplied, but the way it is used. In order to reduce the amount of energy needs, it needs to improve and deliver various services and goods. Changes for improvement on the demand side of the use of energy are equal as those on the supply side.

When it comes to stabilize and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, both energy efficiency and renewable energy will need to be developed at the same time. On the one hand, energy efficiency can slow down the growth of need of energy and cut fossil fuel use through using clean energy. On the other hand, renewable energy has to be developed fast so as to chase a receding target if the demand of energy grows too fast. That means that sustainable energy economy will depend on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Clean energy has gained fast developments in Singapore. It is a great chance for Singaporean since it can bring job opportunities and reduce energy bills.
