How to Maintain Vinyl Flooring at Home and Office?

If you have installed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) flooring at your home or office, you have reduced your work of maintaining your flooring. No other flooring material comes close to the ease and low maintenance cost of PVC floor or vinyl floor. Here are a few easy ways to maintain your vinyl floor used either for residential or commercial purposes.

  1. Use a doormat: Prevention is better than cure. Use doormat at all possible entrances to keep away dirt. Dirt is the biggest enemy of vinyl floors. Grit scrapes against the flooring and causes damage to the finish. Chemicals from materials such as asphalt first stick to your shoe soul and then on the vinyl floor. This causes the vinyl to turn yellow.
  1. Use protective feet: Another preventive measure is to use protective feet for heavy items such are refrigerators. Heavy appliances or furniture tend to cause dent in Vinyl Flooring.
  1. Use plywood if there is a need to move heavy furniture or appliances. Pushing heavy items directly on the vinyl will scuff the flooring, leaving behind scratch marks.
  1. No rolling casters: Casters can also harm the vinyl surface. It is advised to use felt timps on furniture such as chairs.
  1. No waxing: never wax or use mop-and-wax items on a ‘no-wax’ vinyl. Wax does not adhere to the polyurethane coating used on a no-wax vinyl and usually leaves back a mess that needs to be stripped off.
  1. Sweep regularly: The best way to keep your vinyl floor clean is to sweep or vacuum regularly. It is best to get the dirt out before it gets in. Cleaning your floor regularly helps in maintaining the durability of the tiles.
  1. Keep it mild: If you want to use cleansers, use the mildest option. It is very important to use the right kind of cleanser.
  1. Remove soap: Rinse the soap well from your floor. Soap scum tends to leave a film that collect dirt.
  1. Don’t drench: Ensure you dry your vinyl floor after mopping. Remember to keep it dry at all times. Adhesives are used to hold the vinyl sheets or tiles together. Water on the floor from an overly wet mop can weaken the bond of the adhesive, causing the vinyl tiles to loose or curl around the corners. Avoid washing your floor unless necessary. Stick to a dry mop or vacuum.
  1. Going heavy-duty: in case you feel the need to do heavy duty cleaning of Commercial Vinyl Flooring , you can use a mixture of mild and diluted alkaline cleaner (either up to 7pH or 8pH) and warm water. It helps in getting rid of residual oil or dirt that gets accumulated on the floor. Rinse the floor with fresh, cold water so that there is no cleaning mixture left on the floor. Follow this process by either vacuuming or cleaning with a dry-mop to remove excess moisture. The sooner you dry your vinyl floor the better.

Summary

Vinyl flooring can be used at home as well as office. However, it is important to maintain commercial vinyl flooring for long lasting shine and durability.
