At age of just 12, West began playing guitar. By the age of 16, he used to play skilfully in several Florida rock bands, comprising of at least one with Steve Jay. In the initial 1980s, he came to Los Angeles, where Jay introduced him to "Weird Al" Yankovic. Presently, West lives in the Los Angeles area, but devotes numerous months in Hawaii every year. He holds his Canadian citizenship. Thus, he is also called as Kimo West&a Canadian guitarist who is quite popular for working with "Weird Al" Yankovic.
