We have been able to do Passenger Elevator

"We have been able to do Passenger Elevator, I was in Rome for a bit, as well as Florence, and what was exciting was that there are so many young designers in Italy whom we don't see. I bought my wife the most beautiful outfit that looked like a Meiling design from 1976 -- it was scary! For me, fashion is moving in two directions, which is very relevant to the Caribbean.

There are stretch cottons, ethnic prints which is huge, as well as very modern neoprene-meets-Helmut Lang-meets a whole other direction, which is maybe a little sophisticated for us.

But what I see as Caribbean style is still relevant in the world. It is happening here; young designers are giving us these looks and expressions. We are putting newer fabrics, better cuts, good details, so it's exciting to know that it's not foreign to us. Of course, a £1,000 or ¤800 shoe is going to become harder to reach because of our budgets and price points, but it will multiply down or serve its way down to Zappos giving us a US 0 version eventually.

But what is interesting is that everything I pay attention to is not far off from us or what we know, and what I think about Caribbean people or Caribbean style is that we have instinct. I loved what Rihanna wore in Barbados on the stage with Machel (at the recently concluded Crop Over), it's something we have seen and know. So that gives me confidence that we are in the Fuji Passenger Elevator and are moving in the right direction.
