When trying to network business to business, trade shows are all the talk and pomp. Trade show calendars are set up every year so that you can pick and choose which booths you want to visit and what exactly you want to gain from your experience there. Trade shows are hardly ever as glamorous on the inside as they claim to be on the outside. There are a number oftrade show calendars for all the different shows that come up, browsing and educating yourself about them is an absolute necessity.

What you need to do

  • Before you can even think about stepping out of the house or office it is important to have a game plan. Without this your entire day may be a waste of time. Keep a schedule of the stalls you want to visit, vendors you would like to meet and seminars that you must attend. Constantly finding yourself at the nearest food outlet or lunch is not what a trade show is about.

  • Knowing which booths you want to visit is important but it is also important to know where they are located. These kind of shows tend to be really extensive so finding what you need can become quite the task. Have a map of the event in hand and mark off the places you need to be.

  • Make sure your schedule is well organised so that you have a chance to attend everything you need to and meet whoever you need to. Overlap is possible, in which case you need to prepared and ensure this doesn’t happen so you aren’t confused.

  • Always have a backup plan in case something does not work out.

  • Make sure you take enough breaks and eat and drink enough as well. Stay energized for every event that you have planned.
