Travertine Pattern: Ancient Stone of Historic Beauty

Travertine is a gorgeous natural stone material derived from limestone. A type of metamorphic limestone, travertine is the middle-form of limestone and marble, with limestone being the youngest of the natural stones in the same family. Travertine is about 50 million years old, while marble takes 100 million years to form. Limestone materials are commonly used around the world and travertine is ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications, primarily because of its weather and temperature resistant properties.

Travertine is featured in many historic and well-recognized buildings around the world, among the most notable of which is Rome's Colosseum, which is primarily made out of the natural stone. Travertine is known for never getting hot. This is largely because of its lack of metal content. In addition to its weather-proof and temperature-resistant properties, travertine also has a high friction coefficient, giving it strong anti-slip properties even when it is wet. According to studies, travertine has also been found to be twice as strong as concrete.

Travertine pavers are as natural as you can get. They are found in abundance in different parts of the world. Formed by natural geological processes, travertine is a sustainable resource that can usually be found in cave formations. They are cut from natural stone reserves and carefully processed to create paving materials that are very different in look and quality as manmade materials.

Travertine is an excellent material for pool paving as one of its best features is the ability to stay cool even in the warmest of weather conditions. Other materials like bluestone pavers, brick, and concrete can get very hot under your feet, but travertine will stay relatively cool and prevent pavement burns. Travertine is also resistant to efflorescence or discoloration, which is typical of bricks that are laid in concrete.

Compared to marble and porcelain, travertine is a lot easier to fix and install as it can be cut into the desired shape quite easily. More than this, it is also easier to match travertine to existing hardscapes and design elements, making your renovation work a lot more seamless. This is especially helpful when you are looking for a quick fix or are doing a simple remodel of one portion of your home. Travertine is also very versatile when it comes to layout patterns. It can be used to create classic patterns and even more complex layouts like the Versailles or the French Pattern.
