Local Winter Life in Lake Tahoe

Posted by carrlong on January 8th, 2016

Lake Tahoe is a marvelous place for a vacation, it’s true. There are hotels and ski resorts and taverns and friendly people and all the things that go with a wintertime tourist destination.

But Lake Tahoe is more than just tourism. Plenty of folks live there permanently, not just for the touristy things, but for all the benefits of full time living in one of the world’s most beautiful regions, surrounded by some of the world’s most inviting neighbors.

Wintertime in Lake Tahoe is great – everyone knows about its world-class ski resorts, and most people are also aware of its other winter sports. There’s also plenty that many people DON’T know about (like snowshoeing), and with activities planned by establishments such as the Ritz-Carlton (like theirStar Gazing Snowshoe Tour), the wintertime buzz in Tahoe is electric.

But those who live there will tell you: no outdoor sport compares to coming home to a warm fire when it’s snowing outside and enjoying some quiet family time.

If you get past the hustle and bustle of the Village at Northstar or Downtown Truckee, past the active ski resorts full of skiers and snowboarders, you’ll find Lake Tahoe can be a haven of serenity and peace.

Crowded bars with DJs spinning records till the wee small hours are easy for anyone to find – there are hidden treasures, though, that only insiders know about. They are those local pubs that serve local craft beer or local wine. They are the smaller snow tour shops who can take you off the beaten path into the vast forests with unparalleled views over the snow-capped mountains that surround the lake. Local stuff.

Living in Lake Tahoe is far more rewarding than simply visiting. That’s why investing in Lake Tahoe real estateis no small decision. You’ll need to really think about whether you want a vacation home, or whether you want to move there (and vacation in the rest of the world). Vacation homes can be taken more lightly, with less consideration to the daily conveniences you’ll need in a new home. Permanent homes, well…that’s a tough decision.

Whether or not to live there permanently is part of the decision, of course. But really, when you move to somewhere—anywhere—permanently, the home you pick needs to be absolutely perfect. It’s got to be exactly the home you want to live in, located in exactly the spot you want to live.

So contact a local realtor. They’ll be able to show you the home, and they’ll be able to provide local insight that you wouldn’t get from a realtor based in San Francisco or some other region.

Think local. Buy local. Live local.
