You have decided to decorate your bedroom in French style, congratulations! This is an exciting time in your life as you are planning your future decorating theme. If this is the first French-themed bedroom, then you are off to a great start. Here are some advice and tips on how to decorate your French bedroom decoratively and make it your own. Choosing Your Wallpaper: When choosing your wallpapers, it is important that they compliment the look and feel of your French bedroom. The colors that are featured in this style of decor are much lighter than other designs. Floral tones and pastel colors will give your walls a softer look, while darker wallpapers will help to give a more dramatic flair to your room. Choosing Your Colors: When choosing your colors for your French bedroom, be sure to keep in mind the color scheme that you have in your other rooms. By using light pastel colors, such as pale yellows, creams and pinks, you can help to create a warm and inviting feeling in your French country decorating theme. However, when you decorate with darker hues, like purples and deep oranges, you can bring in the darker side of French decor. Remember to play with contrast. By playing up the hues, you can pull your room full of deep rich colors, yet maintain a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Choosing Your French Bedroom Furniture: For your French bedroom, there are many pieces that will bring a charming French feel. One great choice would be a headboard that is shaped in the look of an old French boudoir. Often times, these old beams are hand painted with beautiful landscapes or portraits. Some have intricate scroll work and are set on top of sturdy wood frames. Others are lacquered and feature intricate metal embellishments. You can find these kinds of headboards at retailers that specialize in wood furniture, or you can have one custom designed and made for you. Lighting: Another important aspect of French country decorating is the lighting. If you are applying this style to an existing natural wood bedroom, feel free to let the natural beauty of it's decor shine through. But if you're going for a more modernized look, then you can choose lamps or overhead lighting that mirrors the natural ambiance of the French bedroom. Use Chandeliers in the Style of the French Country Kitchen: Many people have seen pictures of French country kitchens and think they have an abundance of natural light. In actuality, most kitchens do not have as much natural light as it's possible to have. By adding an elegant chandelier to your French bedroom walls, you can add the brightness a kitchen does have. Or, if you want to create a very southwestern feel, you can add an authentic pot hanging above the bed. Throw pillows shaped like pots can also be a nice touch. Use Cast Iron Beds in French Style: Another way to bring the beauty of France into your bedroom is by using iron beds. Whether you choose a contemporary wrought iron bed or an antique, ornate cast iron bed, the beauty and durability will amaze you. To add an authentic look to your bed frame, choose an iron bed that has a canopy. A canopy bed is a smaller bed with a wooden or metal frame that drapes over the ends of the bed. A great addition to any French bedroom ideas is a small iron bed side table. Use Floral Wares in French Style: When you're decorating a French style bedroom, make sure to include floral designs on your accessories, linens, and the walls. A floral wall tapestry can be hung on the wall behind the bed or in the guest bedroom. Home Plans can even paint your walls a light pink or lemon yellow to coordinate with your French curtains and pillows. If you don't want to paint, you can always choose to hang some French floral wallpaper on your walls.
