Although most people know what a magnet is, most people do not know how many applications there are for magnets. For most, a magnet is simply something that can connects two things together and a common image that comes to mind is sticking a magnet to your refrigerator. Although this is true, there is a whole other side for magnets, and that would be the magnets that are for industrial use.

Magnets are in so many products that you are probably unaware of, such as sensors in your car and speakers in your radio. Magnetic products are used by many different industries on a regular basis for their operations, including:

  • Automobile-Electric motors use magnets
  • Construction-Magnets are used to lift, stack and drop heavy loads
  • Electronics–Magnets are in electronic items such as televisions, radios, computer monitors, CD drives, microphones, clocks, amplifiers, loudspeakers, etc.
  • Food- Magnets are used to pick out any iron particles that may have mistakenly gotten into the food
  • Glass and ceramics- Magnets are used to remove ferrous and non-ferrous impurities from crushed glass
  • Manufacturing-Magnets are used to lift, stack and drop heavy loads
  • Mining- Magnets are used to separate metals from ore
  • Pharmaceutical-Magnets are used to pick out any iron particles that may have mistakenly gotten intomedications
  • Plastics- Magnets are used to remove ferrous and non-ferrous impurities from shredded plastics
  • Shipping-Magnets are used to lift, stack and drop heavy loads

In addition, these industries use magnets in order to facilitate production for their company and generate energy. Magnets can also be utilized in order to implement industry safeguards.

Magnets are made in different sizes and different strengths for its many different applications. Each manufacturer will have certain specifications on magnet types, strength and composition and sizes, depending on what they will be used for. Most industrial magnets are made from samarium cobalt and neodymium (also called rare earth magnets), alnico magnets, ceramic magnets and electromagnets.

Industrial magnets are so important for so many industries and magnetic products have provided so many companies with ways to increase the effectiveness of their business in terms of production performance and efficiency.
