Let's Teach You What Bras You Should After Breast Implant Surgery

Breast implant surgery brings many women exactly what they were looking for, namely: fuller, more shapely breasts. Given the approximately quarter million breast implant procedures performed each year in the United States alone, breast surgery remains the most popular form of cosmetic surgery in practice today.

The Effects Of Breast Implant Surgery On Self-Confidence

Breast implant surgery can give an instant boost in self-confidence to a woman who had previously felt dissatisfied with the way her breasts looked - whether clothed or in the nude.

Body image is an important component of self-esteem for most women. While some women focus more on the importance of body image than others, how her body looks in her own eyes determines in part how confidently a woman acts around others.

How A Woman's Breasts Look After Surgery

In the days and weeks immediately following breast surgery, the breasts may not quite look the way the woman had envisioned they would. For example, the way that the silicone or saline implants "hang" or are positioned in the breast may not look smooth and seamless with the natural part of the breast.

Also, there will be the inevitable incisions, which may be unsightly and even painful for time.

However, after some weeks, the breasts will start to take on the shape that the woman had intended them to have. The implants will settle in a bit and look better-integrated with the overall breast.
However, there is one other very important element to consider when a woman wants her breasts to look just right after surgery: getting the right bra.

The Importance Of Choosing Bras For After Breast Implant Surgery

Just as with a woman's breasts before surgery, choosing the right bras for after breast implant surgery is very important. Choosing a bra that is too small for the breasts could cause them to pop out of the cups or to ride in a strange way on her frame. On the other hand, choosing a bra that is too large could cause the cup to get baggy around the nipple area or not provide enough support.

It is no surprise that a woman would face difficulty in choosing a bra after surgery. After all, she is now dealing with breasts that are not only a different size than before, but her breasts now "behave" differently, as well.

3 Tips For Choosing The Right Bra

Here are 3 tips for choosing the right bra after breast implant surgery:

1. Learn your bra band size and your bust size: The bra band size is essentially the measurement (in inches) around the circumference of the chest, just underneath the breast. To measure your bust size, just measure the circumference of your chest at the level of the breasts (over the breasts). Both measurements can be taken using a soft measuring tape.

2. Calculate your cup size: To calculate cup size, just subtract the bra band size from the bust size. So, for example, if your bra band size is 42 inches and your bust size is 45 inches, then your cup size is (45 - 42=) 3 inches, or a C cup.

3. Bra must fit snugly: Another important tip in selecting the right bra after implant surgery is to make sure that the bra straps lay vertically on the body (rather than at a diagonal). Meanwhile, the band itself should remain horizontal across the front of the body. And, while you want a snug fit, make sure that your breasts do not "spill" out above your bra.

Choosing the right bra after breast implant surgery is a very important step in getting your "new" set of breasts to look just the way you had intended. It is also important for your overall comfort and health.
