Chemical suppliers contribute a greater part to the economy of a country. The chemical industry touches virtually every aspect of our lives. This has been broadly classified into three categories - Basic chemicals, Specialty chemicals, and consumer chemicals.

Basic chemical suppliers in India supply the largest quantity of these chemicals to another chemical industry or other industries for manufacturing general consumer products. It is the chemistry that controls the appearance and feel of our clothes, the perfume we use, the taste and flavour of what we eat, and so on. There are more than 70000 products that are supplied by chemical suppliers and are used by individuals or in some other industries. The industry has a great impact on our agriculture, pharmaceutical, industrial and consumer products, and therefore is an important sector of our modernized industrial economy.

The chemical suppliers in India also supply their products to some of the high technology industry depending on the chemical supplies like petrochemical, feedstocks, electronic reagents, ceramics, glass, agricultural chemicals, paints and solvents, plastics and rubber, metals and alloys, synthetic fibres, soap and detergent, and so on.

Here are some of the uses of chemicals in different industries -

  • Agricultural industry - Chemicals like fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, and insecticides are used in crop protection, helps in higher yields, and gets rid of harmful toxins produced by bacteria and fungus.
  • Health and Hygiene - A plethora of deadly diseases can now be detected and diagnosed with chemical science. The chemical industry also contributes to the production of detergents, soaps, and other surfactants to maintain hygiene.
  • Food processing industries - Chemicals enhance the processes used in different food processing industries. Like encouraging fermentation of dairy products for the production of lactic acid from lactose. Certain chemicals add taste and flavour to the food we eat.
  • Paint manufacturing industry - Chemicals are used in the production of paints and coatings. These offer protection to several products and provide a decorative finish. For example, plastic coating, wood coating, emulsion paint, anti-corrosion paint, cement paint, and so on.
  • Petrochemical industry - Chemicals are used in refining crude oil and help in the production of petroleum products. These include ink, dry cleaning chemicals, construction chemicals, charcoal lighters, etc.
  • Construction industry - Approximately 17% of the materials used here comprises the contribution of the chemical industry. For example pipes, siding, paints, etc.
  • Automobile industry - Chemical products like plastics, rubber, paints, and fabrics form the most important parameters of every automobile.

The chemicals produced in the chemical manufacturing industries form the backbone of several other industries and therefore play an essential role in the country's economy.
