LEGO Skyline and Architecture Studio Build in Beachwood

Danish toy brand Lego has introduced a set of kits that allow architecture lovers to build skylines of cities around the world. The first set to be launched includes Venice, Berlin and New York, with each of the cities well-known buildings reconstructed in miniature brick form. The New York City kit features the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Flatiron building and One World Trade Centre. For Venice, the architecture lovers can recreate landmark buildings like the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Campanile and St. Marks Basilica. It also features a tiny candy-striped TV Tower, alongside the Brandenburg Gate and miniature recreations of decorated sections of the Berlin Wall.

LEGO, believes in the philosophy that “good quality play’ enriches a child’s life and lays the foundation for later adult life. They believe that play is a key element in children’s growth and development and stimulates the imagination and the emergence of ideas and creative expression. The event will witness adults and teenagers (ages 14 and up) helping to build new LEGO Skyline in-store display and enjoy a LEGO Architecture build with Architecture Studio bricks afterward. The Lego Architecture kit has already been launched by Lego Architecture- which is an offshoot from the toy brand that releases building blocks aimed at architects and designers. A kit of monochrome bricks was released in the year2014, which gave builders access to 76 unique components, designed to let users create their own miniature architectural masterpieces.

These building blocks have developed a loyal fan base among architects and designers. Steven Holl and BjarkeIngels used them to contribute to a fictional cityscape, commissioned by artist OlafurEliasson. In the words of Ingels, “the bricks were the ultimate tool for testing architectural ideas, describing their proportions as the golden ration of architecture”.Also, architect Winy Maas of MVRDV used Lego blocks to create 676 miniature towers that were shown at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale.

LEGO also organizes a community based Certified Professionals Program for skilled adult LEGO designers and builders who have turned their hobby into a part-or full time profession. This program establishes a formal relationship between the accredited Certified Professionals and the LEGO Group that is of great benefit to both parties and the community as a whole.
