Tapestry: Tribute to Carole King in Torrance

Carole King, born on 9th of February in 1942 is an American composer, singer and songwriter. King's profession came into being in1960s when she, with her then husband Gerry Goffin, penned more than 2 dozen hits for several artists, most of who have become standards. She has been continuously writing for the other artists since then. King's achievement as an artist in her own euyes did not come till the 1970s, when she buzzed her own songs, playing the piano, in a sequence of music albums and shows. After undergoing commercial disappointment with her debut album Writer, King managed to earn her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which surpassed the United States musical album chart for around 15 weeks in the year 1971 and continued to be on the charts for more than 6 years.

In the year 2000 Billboard pop music scholar Joel Whitburn entitled King as the most popular and prosperous female songwriter of 1955–99 because she penned or co-wrote approximately118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. King managed to write 61 hits that charted in the United Kingdom. In the year 2005 music historian Stuart Devoy considered her to be the most prosperous female songwriter on the United Kingdom singles charts 1952–2005. King has till now released 25 solo albums, the most fruitful being Tapestry, which held the record for greatest number of weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years.

Her latest non-compilation album was Live at the Troubadour in the year 2010, an association with James Taylor that touched number 4 on the charts in its 1st week and has managed to sell more than 600,000 replicas. She has won 4 Grammy Awards and was welcomed into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her song writing. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honoured. She is also a 2015 Kennedy CenterHonoree.
