It isn't always just price, there is more to it than that. So lets take a look at some baby food maker buying tips to help you out.

Tip 1. This is very obvious but I will state it anyway. Where is the unit made? This is important because there has been to much going on in the news this last year or so about products coming in from China with all kinds of health hazards attached to them. Anything from paint that has lead to plastics that are made with harmful chemicals to poison dog food for crying out loud! Always consider where the unit is made!

Tip 2. Is the baby food maker you want going to be manually operated or electric? Will the unit you buy be just a food grinder, blender or mill and then you have to cook the food in something else? That's a lot of stuff to have on your counter top taking up space. The unit I prefer and use is an all in one that steams, blends/grinds, defrosts and cooks the food and has a very small footprint on my counter top.

Tip 3. Will the unit that you want to buy maintain the nutrients of the food you make by keeping the water from the steaming process? The reason for using a baby food maker is so that you can make the healthiest and most nutritious foods for your child. Nutrient retention from the cooking process is very important factor to consider.

Tip 4. The unit you buy should be completely dishwasher safe. All of the parts from the preparation bowl to blades, Period!

Tip 5. The baby food maker you buy should be one hundred percent unbreakable material and should also be BPA free. BPA stands for Bisphenol A. This is a compound that is used in many plastics products today. There is a lot of debate about whether or not small amounts of BPA leach out of the plastics and into the foods we eat. There is also lots of debate as to how much BPA is actually harmful to humans and whether or not BPA is a carcinogen. Well, tell you what! If there is debate and documentation which there is, I will stay away from BPA products. So get a baby food maker that is 100% BPA free!

Then after boiling you can use a regular counter top blender to puree the food, but now you are taking two steps and taking up a lot of room on your counter top with blenders and pots.
