'Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic' news and update: 'KoTOR' being remade b

A scene from the game "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic." A fan project is being made by Poem Studios, naming it as "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic: Apeiron" using the Unreal 4 engine to update its graphics. The game will be 100% free once completed as it is a fan-made game and not licensed by either Electronic Arts or Disney Interactive.

Many consider "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic" to be one of the best RPGs to have come out. Known also by its acronym of KoTOR, the game has been loved by fans over the years. However, as good as it might be, its graphics have been left behind by newer games that have come out.

Considering that "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic" has come out in 2003, a visual overhaul would be needed to make the game more appealing to a new generation of gamers. A number of independent developers have formed Poem Studios to do the project, as Gamespot reports. The game's development is also being supported by several Star Wars RPG fans.

Since the remake is not an official project for the game, Poem Studios has named the project as "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repulbic: Apeiron." The remake will be done using the Unreal 4 engine, which gives its graphics a more updated look.

Unlike in the original, the game can now be played in either first-person or third-person mode. Game Director Taylor Trotter comments on the first-person perspective screenshots of the game, as Gamespot has requested for his views on it.

"While 'Apeiron' is a remake of 'Knights of The Old Republic,' we also wanted to add things the original didn't have," Trotter says to Gamespot. "One of those things is giving the player a choice to switch between first and third person." He also says that the screenshots are in the first person perspective in order to give viewers an idea about the environment.

Geek reports that the game, once finished, would be 100% free and the developers will not charge anyone for anything from it. This is being done for good reason, as 'Apeiron' is considered a fan project and has not been licensed by Electronic Arts, Bioware or Disney Interactive. Geek also cautions gamers as the project might have a high possibility of being cancelled if ever Electronic Arts or Disney decide to put it on hold.

As of now the project is still ongoing, so any details about it are still largely unknown. Its development is on livestream on Twitch, as Cinema Blend reports. Poem Studios is also looking for volunteers to help in the project.
