Follicular Lymphoma Treatment Methods Are Always Changing As The SciencesPosted by Sachin B on July 8th, 2021 A large clinical trial has been standard for early-stage follicular lymphoma treatment for more than 35 years. Although involving clinical trial is known to increase the out-patient survival rate for patients with stage I and II disease, the benefits also extend to the patient's family. The benefits of clinical trials include a decreased risk of re-occurrence, possibly associated with radiation therapy, a possible improvement in quality of life, and a decreased need for palliative care. Follicular lymphoma is a cancer that affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. Patients with this disorder have lymph nodes that produce too little lymphocytes or too few cells, producing a gray or brown appearance. Patients with this disease are often given a single high-dose treatment at the beginning of their treatment and monitored for disease stability after this point. Two different types of follicular lymphoma treatments are used: internal beam radiation therapy (IBR), also known as Photodynamic Therapy, and external beam radiation therapy (ebriyotherapy). Photodynamic Therapy uses high-intensity light beams to destroy tumors while ebriyotherapy uses radiation on tumors removed from the chest cavity.
