A Look at the Differences Between Visual Poetry and Concrete Poetry

Visual poetry is defined by literary critics as a poetic form in which images or other forms of art are accustomed to convey meaningful messages. Several literary theories have identified visual poetry being an evolution of concrete poetry, but with the attributes of hybrid/intermedia in which visual components predominate and the increased exposure of non-representational texts. The poetry of the visual arts has emerged from several decades of experimentation with media such as for instance photography, video, and computer generated images. Over the past fifteen years, more traditional poetic forms including the stanza and the sonnet have seen an increased popularity in the UK public. Visual poetry isn't about recognizable shape or form, once we have come to realize. Although there is nothing explicitly sexual about these poems, the title appears to point toward the fact that they share a typical precursor - the erotic imagination. Inspite of the commonality of the title, there are no erotic undertones, and the poems follow a different narrative than the normal nursery rhymes we read as children. Lucid dreaming is the basis for most abstract works of visual poetry , and the procedure of writing a lucid dream self-portraits is one of many precursors to making a lucid dream work. In these poems, the poet must describe a personal situation, or experience, and then draw an in depth map of the event onto an empty canvas. He then uses objects found throughout the house to create a world-wide view. The objects in the dream are of varied sizes and shapes, and Lucid dreaming is usually combined with feelings of heightened emotions. This type of poetic art can be quite dark, as the poet usually consciously chooses the information of his dream. Most Lucid dreamers report that their images are now and again very disturbing, even haunting. Still, while concrete poetry has a definite format, and could be printed on almost any surface, visual poetry utilizes its imagery to create a unique impact. It's not necessary to produce a work of maximal size. As a matter of fact, a big canvas print of a seated Buddha wouldn't be viewed visual poetry , even though the Buddha himself was sitting there. But an artist could paint a still-life or a picture which was filled with multi-colored butterflies fluttering around him, for instance. For more details please visit Visual poetry.
