The Fresno State Bulldogs symbolize California State University, Fresno (usually known as as Fresno State) in 19 NCAA Division I sports. The teams are in association of the Mountain West Conference. Prior to this, it had been a part of the Western Athletic Conference from the year 1992–93 before parting for the Mountain West during the 2012–13 season. Fresno State was also a member of the Big West Conference from the 1969–70 (the meeting was recognized as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association at that time until the year 1988).

Fresno State had also been a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association from its commencement in the 1939–40 season (when Fresno State was in NCAADivision II). It was on 18th of August 2010 that it was declared that Fresno State, next to fellow WAC member Nevada, would agree to a proposal to move to the Mountain West Conference. Fresno State and Nevada managed to make the move, effective from 1st of July, 2012. The university has been able to win 2 NCAA Division I Championships in both Softball (1998) and Baseball (2008). Fresno State fields 18 varsity sports teams; 7 men's and 11 women's.
