Land Survey May Help Predict Earthquakes, Scientists Say

Land surveying has been in existence for many centuries and this has been shown to be very valuable through the years. It has been an indispensable part of land development, benefiting many people in terms of homes, roads, and infrastructure. 

The importance of land surveying is even felt more today with the rapid development all around us and the impact of technological advances. And now it would appear that land surveying would greatly benefit mankind, going with the findings of scientists from the University of California at Berkeley.  

It has been reported that land surveying may become very vital with regards to earthquakes, an act of God that can have disastrous effects on those affected. This catastrophe can cause countless deaths and damage to property and resources. It has been shown to displace a wide area of any country and render the land useless. Such is the tragedy that an earthquake may bring to us. 

Exact Occurrence of Earthquakes cannot be pinpointed 

Notwithstanding the highly advance state of our technology, it is very unfortunate that no machine or equipment has been invented that can precisely determine the exact occurrence of an earthquake. We have at present the capability that can forecast the possibility of earthquakes but this cannot exactly pinpoint the date of occurrence and the specific location. Nonetheless, these are very useful since these can determine an earthquake that is underway and be a source of an early warning system. 

Ongoing Research on Earthquakes 

It is to the credit of the scientist and concerned sectors, such as the government, that research on this aspect continuous with great resolve. All avenues have been considered in achieving this goal. So it should be a cause of great rejoice when it was reported that one area that shows great promise in the matter of earthquakes was land surveying. 

UCLA Scientists Discovers Link between Land Surveying and Earthquake  

Without going into the details, it was found by scientists from the University of California at Berkeley that by undertaking land surveying functions, such as measuring distances, locations, and angles, much can be learned about the occurrence of earthquakes. These observations are well supported by scientific principles and have been proven with prior experiences. 

This is indeed a very promising development in the study of earthquakes. With this knowledge and our technological capabilities, it is hoped that we will be able to accurately predict earthquakes in the future.
