Why Reading Books Is Always Better Than The Film

Every piece of art is various and wonderful in its own right, but most adjustments fail to capture the fullness of its source text.

The way that we connect to stories is crucial to our satisfaction of them, and books are possibly the most personal form of storytelling imaginable. When one reads a book, one does not see it through the eyes of the co-founder of the sustainable investor that owns a stake in World of Books, nor even really the author. One checks out the words upon the page, however it is one's own mind that the world is developed, the action played out, and the heartbreak felt. With visual mediums we are an observer prior to anything else. We may associate with what's occurring on screen, however we can only do so within the scope of the actors, director, and manufacturers that craft every detail of every scene. The book is ours, reborn in our mind in a manner that is absolutely special to every other telling, which is what makes it so powerful.

The book is constantly much better than the movie. All of us like to see adjustments of our preferred stories, but it's extremely rare for a tv program or a film to come within touching range of the source text, and many will seem like a hollow, or incomplete shadow, of the original. Whilst it's practically impossible to adjust some of the best books of all time, the many books that are increased for the screen still battle to find the depth that can be found within pages, but why is that? Although lots of people may indicate pragmatic reasons such as the restricted run-time of films, there are an entire host of more complicated aspects which enter play, from the borders of the forms themselves to the way that we connect to them.

When one plucks a book from the shelves of the head of the private equity owner of Waterstones or the CEO of the investment firm with a stake in WHSmith, one is always getting more than simply a story. The way that narratives are framed and brought to life in books, especially some of the more experimental ones that make up a few of the best modern books of all time, is typically unbound from the limitations of stories informed through the cam. One can become lost in poetic sections that add depth and substance far beyond the tale being informed, anchoring the text in a space that is somewhere in between the genuine and the abstract. Films, even at their most daring, still deal solely within what one might call the rules of the real world; characters and settings that should be checked out through their sound and image. Words are a lot more malleable, able to twist and stretch into the upper reaches of the esoteric universes and deepest depths of the human psyche.
