Are you wondering whether NDIS counselling is right for you or your loved one? At Life Resolutions, we are committed to empowerment through knowledge, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need to make a decision that works best for you or the person you care for.

We know that often, information about the National Disability Insurance Scheme and mental health care can be difficult to understand. Our team is dedicated to explaining everything you need to know in a way that makes sense. In this article, we will be talking about how NDIS counselling can support and empower someone with a disability.

How Does NDIS Counselling and Psychology Work?

When an individual creates an NDIS plan, they can choose to spend their funding on a variety of different areas. One of these areas is capacity building supports – these are services from providers aimed at building the individual’s independence and skills.

If counselling is included as part of a person’s NDIS plan, it will be part of the capacity building category. If you or your loved one is a Plan-Managed NDIS participant, you can talk to your Plan Manager about seeking counselling with your allocated funding. Self-Managed participants can request a plan review or contact the NDIS for more information.

If you or the person you care for is Plan-Managed or Self-Managed, you can choose any provider for NDIS claimable counselling.

How Can NDIS Counselling Help?

NDIS claimable counselling with a qualified psychologist can help participants achieve the goals they have outlined in their plan and increase their independence. There are eight different capacity-building support categories, focussed around improving relationships, health and wellness, employment and educational outcomes, community participation, and more.

If an individual is working towards going back to school, a psychologist could help with coping strategies and behaviour management. For someone who hopes to get into the workforce, the support of a psychologist could be perfect for learning new communication and time management skills. Psychologists can also support people with relationships and interpersonal challenges, help them connect with others in the local community, and much more – supports are aimed at building independence and daily living skills for individuals while empowering them to achieve their own goals.
