The grapefruit tree (Citrus maxima) was one of the last trees to appear on this planet. It is now one of the highest known concentrations of Vitamin C in the world (estimated at 50 billion percent more than Vitamin C found in seaweeds). It is grown in almost every tropical country in the Western Hemisphere. As a natural source of Vitamin C, the grapefruit comes far behind only the citron orange and purple grapefruit.

It is a large, round-shaped citrus fruit with a mildly sweet taste. It has a somewhat tart, tangy flavor and is quite popular as an after-dinner drink. In the American tropical region, the fruit is almost always juiced with lime juice, but this isn't true everywhere. In some areas of Mexico, fruit is made with a mild lemon flavor. The fruit is very commonly used as a sports drink.
