Before you go ahead, you must know a pellet mill (also known as pellet press) is a type of mill or machine press used to create pellets from powdered material. Unlike grinding mills, in pellet mills, manufacturers combine smaller materials into larger, homogenous mass rather than breaking large materials into smaller pieces.

Basically, there are two types of large scale pellet mills including flat die mills and ring die mills. Make a note; flat die mills use a flat die with slots. The powder is introduced to the top of the die and as the die rotates a roller presses the powder through the holes in the die.

One the other side of the die, a cutter cuts the exposed pellet free from the die. And in the ring die, there are radial slot radial throughout the die. During the process, powder is fed into the inside of the die and spreaders evenly distribute the powder. Furthermore, two rollers then compress the powder through the die holes. And the two cutters are used to cut the pellets free from the outside of the die.

Make a note, large scale pellet mills are used to produce animal feed, wood pellets and fuel pellets for use in a pellet stove. Other than the large scale ones, small-scale mills are usually the variations of screw presses or hydraulic presses.

Remember, the same basic process is used for both the types. A die is also known as a mold, holds the uncompressed powder in a shaped pocket. And the pocket shape is defined as the final pellet shape. Actually, the pellet is attached to the end of the screw (in a screw press) or the ram (in a hydraulic press) which compresses the powder.

Make a note, some platens are heated to speed up the time it takes and improve upon the overall structure of the pellet. And pellet mill machine have water ports for quick cooling during the usage.

Although, a sheer number of manufacturers are offering state-of-the-art pellet mill equipment but all of them are not worthy enough to rely upon. Some of them only claim to offer best equipment but they are focused upon nothing but to garner money out of the pocket of the clients. To make the right purchase, you must pay stress over the feedbacks and testimonials shared by former clients.

Whether it’s about contract manufacturing or any other manufacturing job, you must make use of quality equipment during the process.
