Both use whole milk, eggs and sugar in large quantities, although British version includes sour cream as opposed to cottage cheese in the recipe. In either recipe, once you've made the cake batter, you just need to add baking soda, a touch of salt, and mix thoroughly, which takes just a few minutes.
