How to clean a CPU Easily

The central processing computer unit (CPU) unit is often the most overlooked part when it comes to regular computer cleaning. The CPU houses the crucial components of a computer and when owners neglect to clean it, dust accumulates in the vents and the heat generated by the computer has nowhere to escape. Overheating is the number one cause of computer failure. Protect your investment by regularly cleaning your CPU.

  • Slit
  • Canned Air
  • Swabs
  • Alcohol
  • Static Free Cloths

  1. Locate which side of the computer's motherboard is attached and remove the other side panel in front of the CPU unit using a screwdriver. Be careful not to touch any part of the card or any of the cables.

  2. Use compressed air to blow air through the computer CPU fan and any other air vents in the case.
  3. blow air around the internal components, starting at the top and blowing air and debris to the bottom. Finish by clearing all debris from the bottom of the unit.
  4. Clean the inner panel with a static-free cloth until it is free of all debris.
  5. Dip a cotton swab in alcohol and wipe around all edges and openings on the outside of the CPU. Use a second cotton swab to dry each area you clean.
  6. Repeat the cleaning process every six to eight months on your computer's CPU. For CPU units that sit on the floor, in homes with pets, or have smoke around, clean every three months.
