Since Passenger Elevator don’t store the beans on site, the harvest delivery options filled up first.Johnson said farmers will be able to use the same planters and conveyance equipment as used for commodity soybean operations, but the equipment will need to be cleaned out to prevent contamination with commodity beans.

Incoming beans will be tested for oleic content. Growers with soybeans that don't meet the minimum specifications can still sell their product as commodity beans, but they won't receive the extra premium."With low commodity prices now, these farmers have to look for every angle to increase revenues," he said. "It's a win-win for everybody.”

Working to bring consumers a healthier type of soybean, Ag Processing Inc. is teaming up with DuPont Pioneer to start a local market for high oleic soybeans.Pioneer has a soybean variety named “Plenish,” a high oleic bean that can be used to make a zero trans fat oil.

Jodie Johnson, merchandising manager at AGP, said it’s a heart-healthy option they are working to make available to consumers."It's more competitive with the more popular and healthier oils in the market now," he said.In a deal with Pioneer, Johnson said AGP will begin processing high oleic soybeans this year.

Pioneer needed a partner to process Elevator Company, which must be segregated from regular commodity soybeans. AGP will set aside one of its four receiving pits for the new soybeans for processing.
