Explore the Adventurous Underwater Life with Scuba Diving in Phuket

Phuket is one of the best places in the world to dive, thanks to its exotic and unique sites as well as its excellent year-round weather. If you are planning to go scuba diving in Phuket, consider visiting from October to April, which is Thailand’s best diving season. It’s also okay to go during the rainy season from May to September but expect downpours that will last up to 2 hours. If you want to avoid the tourists (and higher scuba diving rates), avoid going to Phuket in December and January.

Explore the wonderful underwater life in Phuket by signing up with a PADI dive center. Not only will you be safer—you will also have an easier time accessing dive sites in Phuket. You may get to see the following notable dive sites:

  • Koh Doc Mai – In Thai, Koh Doc Mai means Flower Island. It looks like a large limestone rock covered, but underneath the surface, you will find colorful corals that resemble flowers. Koh Doc Mai is an excellent wall dive and boasts diverse marine life.
  • Anemone Reef – Home to a large mass of green and blue colored anemones, Anemone Reef is a limestone pinnacle.
  • King Cruiser Wreck – On May 4, 1997, MS King Cruiser met its demise in this area while crossing over to the Phi-Phi islands. Luckily, no lives were lost. Divers can now explore what’s left of this ship, which has become a perfect example of nature’s reclamation.
  • Shark Point – Undeniably one of the most popular dive site sin Phuket, Shark Point is a marine sanctuary where you can encounter docile leopard sharks.
  • Racha Yai Island – This Island offers shallow bays with excellent visibility, making it ideal for snorkeling as well as beginner scuba divers.
  • Racha Noi Island – This uninhibited island is surrounded by granite boulders and hard coral reefs. It’s an excellent spot to watch whale sharks and manta rays.

It’s a good idea to find out which dive sites you want to go to so you can avoid cookie-cutter packages. There are tour agencies that can create tailor-made dive tours for you. You can stay for as long as permissible at the sites you really want to explore. If you haven’t been diving for a long time or if this is your first time, PADI dive centers have on-site dive pools to help you practice.
