Plastic Granulator Machine: A Brief Guide to its know-how

With the augment of the use of plastic bags and many more articles made of plastic over the years as daily household utilities, we have come to a point where we face severe hazards in terms of pollution due to all things plastic. The plastic being non-biodegradable in nature, cannot be disposed off easily like the organic wastes are. Hence, the Plastic Granulator Machine to bring under control this insane amount of waste, which constitutes about 40% that generated from each household.

What is a Granulator Machine?

A Granulator Machine is basically a machine employed to reduce the size of a material fed into it such that the output size of the material is granular. A Plastic Granulator Machine is extensively used for recycling articles such as bottles, jars, bags, boxes, etc made of plastic. The plastic articles are crushed to granules that are then melted and reused for making new articles of plastic.

Construction and Working of the Machine

The Plastic Granulator is structured such that the plastic feed travels from the hopper/mouth of the machine to the cutting blades, which are mounted onto a shaft/rotor. The rotor is in turn attached to a motor which gives it the rotary motion needed for the cutting action. All this arrangement is encased inside a closed chamber. There also exists a screen with the desired mesh size which helps in sifting the granules and classifying them into groups of like sizes. This helps segregate the granules of the exact size needed from the rest. Its objective is to reduce the amount of fines and dust as much as possible.

Maintenance and Caution

The most important parts of the Plastic Granulator Machine are the cutting blades and the sifting screen. These comprise the main working unit of the machine which undergoes constant wear and tear. Needless to note, these require the maximum maintenance in order to keep the machine running efficiently.

The cutting blades need to be kept in their pristine condition of sharpness so as to induce a sharp and clean cut while granulation occurs, thus reducing the amount of fines and dust.

The sifting screen can be kept in check by removing and cleaning it up after every batch of granulation finishes and before the next one commences.

Also, other mechanical parts of the Plastic Granulator Machine such as the motor and shaft need to be checked time and again for their efficacy.

Types and Capacity

The Plastic Granulator Machine available in the market offers a variety of mesh sizes and capacities based on the desired granule size and the operational batch size. These are also available as industrial grade and household granulators; horizontal and vertical hammermill types; shear and shaft type grinders, with single, double, triple and quadruple shafts.

The Plastic Granulation Machine is usually rated in terms of its capacity as ‘pounds of material processed per hour’.
