College is a very memorable time for many. You will learn many new things, meet many new people and prepare for your future. Make this chapter of your life the best it can be with the following tips. You should not consider going to college unless you have a good idea of the kind of career you want or at least have a general idea. Meet with a career counselor to find out more about your different options and take the time to do some research about different schools and programs. A good tip if you're thinking about going to college is to get all of your general education out of the way. This means that you take your basic classes at a community college so that when you're finally at college, you're able to take good classes that are worth the money. You are responsible for cooking and cleaning. Try to eat right and make sure you are sleeping as much as you should. Create a schedule that balances class time, study time, recreation and rest. Being too stressed or eating unhealthy foods can cause illness. Keep in touch with your family. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's hard sometimes to keep in touch with your siblings and parents when you have so much going on in your college life. Make time for at least one call or Skype session every week, and you'll make them happy. One of the things that you should do when you enter college is to get acquainted the area around your college. This means find the best restaurants, supermarkets and bars in your area. An understanding of the place that you live in can help you feel more comfortable during your stay. If possible try to live for your first year in campus housing. By taking advantage of room and board you can give yourself more of a chance to focus on getting accustomed to the campus and community. Then in following years you will have a better idea of where you might prefer to live on your own. Try to avoid drinking coffee every morning. It might cost you way too much. Brew your own coffee. Though it may be less convenient than stopping at a cafe, you are sure to realize serious savings. A quality coffee machine is a great investment that will save you money in the future. Enroll in many different elective classes. By exposing yourself to lots of topics, you stand a better chance of determining what it is you truly love. Freshman year of college is the perfect time to try new things and gain new experiences. You should consider signing up for a work study program if you want to get some professional experience. Most work study programs will require you to alternate between taking classes and working as an intern. This is a good way to finance your education while gaining some professional experience and building a professional network. Taking Chem Tuition is important but you should also find some kind of activities you can do on campus. All colleges have a lot of clubs or teams you can join, but you could also volunteer for an association or even start your own club. You will be able to add this experience on your resume. Do research on your intended major. Before declaring your major, do the research to learn if your choice is feasible. Look at current and projected job prospects for those with that major. Furthermore, look at the future expected earnings, and the types of fields' people with your intended major usually go into. What you find may surprise you. A good tip that will help you with your studying is to make use of flash cards. It may sound juvenile but flash cards really do make a big difference when you're studying for a brutal test or exam. The more you have in your studying arsenal, the better you'll do. If you are thinking of joining a fraternity or sorority, take the time to look into what each individual house has to offer. While there are similarities, many houses are different in the types of community service they do, the types of activities they prefer, and the overall attitude they portray. Avoid the urge to overeat if you are living at the dormitory. Most schools offer up a buffet-style selection with a wide variety of selections that can be tempting, but overeating can lead to health issues as well as take away from the energy needed to focus on your academics. Don't join campus government activities until you have been on campus for a year or so. Freshmen aren't respected. During your first year of school, you can gain more insight into campus life and which issues will be most important to fellow students. One important tip for college students who live in dorms with communal showers is to always wear flip flops when taking a shower. You are sharing a shower with dozens if not hundreds of other students so make sure to keep yourself as hygienic as possible by sporting shower socks whenever its time to clean up. Do not skip classes with attendance policies that are not mandatory. Skipping one day can quickly snowball into missing weeks or months. Missing that many lectures makes passing final exams, and the class, really difficult to achieve. Just one skip can start a big blow to your final grade point average. Now that you have had time to read through the tips laid out here, you have a better understanding of how to lead a fulfilling life at college. College is a fond memory for many, but you have to make sure that you have fond memories for you. This is your time!
