Though tiny in shape, acnes can be the most dreadful type of skin problem. Ask any teen, and he/she will tell you how these tiny skin problems have caused them the greatest worry. Not all acnes are same. The various forms of acne are:

Whiteheads and Blackheads

They are the mildest form of acnes. These acnes can appear at various types, and could be formed due to excess oil secretion on the face or due to clogged sweat pores.

Papules

Moderate forms of acne, they are usually red and inflamed. The papules have white centers. These acnes can be painful, but don’t ever try to break them with your fingers.

Nodules

They are the most severe form of acnes and can be very painful. They appear as cysts or lumps under the surface of the skin. These acnes are usually filled with pus.

When you go for acne scar removal treatment, your dermatologist will first identify the type of acne. In case of mild or moderate acnes, your skin doctor will prescribe medicines and ointments to treat the condition. If you have pricked the acne or it has dried, leaving behind a scar, then your doctor will prescribe a relevant acne scar removal treatment based on the type of scar.

The various types of acne scars are:

Indented scars

As the name states, these scars grow into the skin’s surface. The types of indented scars are rolling, ice pick, and boxcar. A scar that starts out wide and then narrows as it goes deeper into the skin layer is termed as ice pick. The rolling and box car are shallow scars. Surgery and laser are the best treatments for removal of acne scars of this type.

Raised acne scars

As the name says, this type of scar rises above the skin surface. Raised scars are seen as bumps on the face. They usually appear due to excess collagen in the skin. The treatment for raised scar removal is usually done through laser, surgery, and microdermabrasion. Such scars are also treated using corticosteroids, silicon, or interferon injections.

Dark spots and discolorations

They are the mildest form of acne scars. Generally, these scars fade away with time. However, if it doesn’t happen, then your dermatologist may recommend acne scar removal treatments such as microdermabrasion or use of oils and exfoliators to remove the marks.

In order to get the best results from your acne scar removal treatment, avoid over exposure to the harmful UV rays. You should also religiously follow the after-treatment plan provided by the dermatologist.
