Digital signature overview

A digital signature online is an electronic, encrypted authenticating stamp applied to digital data such as communications. The message\'s integrity is confirmed by the digital signature.

This signature confirms the identity of the company that generated the digital signature by ensuring that the information came from the signer and was not tampered with. Any modification to the signed data renders the entire signature invalid.

Digital signatures are essential because they may assure message integrity from beginning to finish and give authentication information about the communication\'s source. The digital signature must be part of the application data and generated at the moment the message is created to be most effective. The signature is then double-checked when the message is received and processed. You have the option of signing the entire message or sections of it (even overlapping parts of a message can be signed). If a portion of the message has to be changed before it reaches the customer, you can opt to sign just sections of it. If the entire message was signed in this case, even if one portion of the message was changed, the entire signature would be invalidated. You may create partial signatures for a message by adding a reference and an ID property to each element you want to sign.

The Certifying Authority may issue additional classes of Public Key Certificates than the four listed below, but these must be expressly stated, including the purpose for which each class is used and the verification techniques used to issue the certificate. The following are the four classifications that have been suggested:

Digital Signature Certificate, Class 1: Individuals/private subscribers will be granted Class 1 certificates. Within the Certifying Authorities database, these certificates will certify that the user\'s name (or alias) and email address constitute an unambiguous topic.

Digital Signature Certificate (Class 2): These certificates will be distributed to both corporate and private persons. These certifications will verify that the subscriber\'s information in the application does not contradict information in well-known consumer databases.

Digital Signature Certificate (Class 3): Individuals and organizations will both receive this certificate. Because they are high-assurance certificates intended particularly for e-commerce applications, they will only be given to persons who present in person before the Certifying Authorities.

Certificate of Digital Signature:

Digital Signature Certificates, often known as DSCs or Digital Signatures, have been adopted by a number of government bodies and are now required in a number of applications.

Capricorn provides a variety of certificates to assist organizations and people in securing online transactions while maintaining legal validity under the Indian Information Technology Act of 2000.

Capricorn certificates are compliant with the x.509 Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) standard in India, and they are also issued in accordance with the IVG and IOG standards provided by the Office of the Controller of Certifying Authorities.

Type of Certificates:

  • Sign

Only Sign DSC may be used to sign papers. Signing PDF files for Tax Returns, MCA, and other websites is the most common application. Signing using DSC ensures not only the integrity of the signer but also the integrity of the data. It is evidence of data that has not been tampered with or changed.

  • Encrypt

Encrypt DSC may only be used to encrypt a document; it is commonly used in tender portals to assist firms in encrypting and uploading documents. The certificate may potentially be used to encrypt and transmit classified material. Encrypt DSC is ideal for e-commerce documents, legal papers, and document exchange that are extremely confidential and include sensitive information. Encrypt certificate is also available as a stand-alone solution.

  • Encryption & Signature

Both signing and encrypting may be done using our Sign & Encrypt DSC. It is useful for users who need to verify themselves and keep the information they provide secret. It\'s used for things like filling out government forms and applications.

The Certificate\'s Validity:

You might purchase certificates with a three-year validity period. (The validity of certificates is regulated by law, and you cannot purchase certificates with a validity of more than three years or less than one year.)

Certificates are divided into the following categories:

Capricorn CA can only provide Class 3 DSC to their clients, according to the new CCA standards. All already acquired class 2 certificates, on the other hand, will remain current and usable.

Digital Signature Certificate (Class 3):

According to IVG guidelines, we also provide class 3 digital signature certificates, which are the most secure and safest of all certifications. It\'s typically utilized in situations that need a high level of security and safety, such as e-filing, online trading, and e-commerce, when a large sum of money or highly private information is at stake.
