Sensor is a device that detects different types of physical input such as light, heat, motion, moisture, and pressure, among others. This data transmits to an electronic device for further processing. Sensors find applications in various industries such as electronics, IT & telecommunication, automotive, and healthcare.

A sensor is a device that measures physical input from its environment and converts it into data that can be interpreted by either a human or a machine. Most sensors are electronic (the data is converted into electronic data), but some are more simple, such as a glass thermometer, which presents visual data.People use sensors to measure temperature, gauge distance, detect smoke, regulate pressure and a myriad of other uses.

Sensor Technology is also used frequently in medical devices. Input sensors such as myo-electrodes are used in prosthetic technology. Myo-electrodes detect electrical signal from a patient’s muscle contractions. Heartbeat sensors monitor and detect patients’ pulse, and thermometers measure temperature.

The most frequently used different types of Sensor are classified based on the quantities such as Electric current or Potential or Magnetic or Radio sensors, Humidity sensor, Fluid velocity or Flow sensors, Pressure sensors, Thermal or Heat or Temperature sensors, Proximity sensors, Optical sensors, Position sensors, Chemical sensor, Environment sensor, Magnetic switch sensor , etc.

A sensor converts the physical action to be measured into an electrical equivalent and processes it so that the electrical signals can be easily sent and further processed. The sensor can output whether an object is present or not present (binary) or what measurement value has been reached (analog or digital).

An active Sensor is one which transmits a signal into the environment and then measures the response that comes back. One example is an ultrasonic system: A pulse of ultrasound is emitted. If an object is in the way, the pulse is reflected back.

Sensors can improve the world through diagnostics in medical applications; improved performance of energy sources like fuel cells and batteries and solar power; improved health and safety and security for people; sensors for exploring space and the known university; and improved environmental monitoring.

Typical applications of different types of sensors such as application of Speed sensor for synchronizing the speed of multiple motors, Temperature sensor application for industrial temperature control, application of the PIR sensor for automatic-door-opening system, Ultrasonic sensor application for distance measurement, etc., are discussed below with their block diagrams.

There are a multitude of types of sensors. In the average automobile alone, there are dozens of different types of sensors. Tire pressure sensors indicate whether a tire is flat or in need of more air. Self-driving cars such as the Tesla are equipped with ultrasonic sensors that measure the distance between the vehicle and other objects in its environment using sound waves. Home security systems use motion sensors, which detect the movement of primarily larger objects. The most commonly used motion sensor for home surveillance is called a Passive Infared (PIR) system, which detects infrared radiation in the sensor’s environment.
