Measure and mount honeycomb blinds

Alveolar or honeycomb blinds are named after their appearance. They have a honeycomb structure when opened from the side that traps air to insulate the house. Cell phones look like pleated blinds, but these airbags insulate and therefore vertical blinds come in more personalized forms and can cost more than other blinds.

Before measuring a custom cell tint, it is important to consider these tips. Use only a metal tape measure, as a measuring stick or fabric tape measure is not as consistent and versatile. Next, determine if cellular shades should be mounted inside or outside the window frame. Check the color, brand and number of your shade to make sure it matches the interior of your room. Examine the samples and compare them to the catalog. Next, determine the location of the lifting cable. Once you have noted all the dimensions and placed an order, the Custom Shade cannot be changed.

If your windows have more than an inch of free space inside the frame, interior mounting is recommended. Movable shades mounted inside will take up less space and are less likely to accidentally fall out. For honeycomb shades smaller than half an inch, approximately 1½ of the frame space is required. Larger curtains require more than two inches for flush mounting. Anything less and the curtains will protrude from the frame.

Measure the width with a steel tape measure in more than one place. The size of your lampshade will be the smallest measurement rounded to one-eighth of an inch. The custom blind factory will automatically deduct the clearance to ensure the blinds fit. For height, measure twice and provide the longest number.

An outside bracket should be used when there is less than an inch of free space in the frame. Measure the dimensions of the trim, as this is where the brackets will be mounted. Add four inches to frames without trim. This will allow for a two inch overlap to ensure your cellular shades provide privacy and light control. The height of your cellular shade will be the distance from the top of the trim to the threshold. Windows without trim will need about 2 inches to fit.

Vertical blinds are easier. Top width is the critical measurement as it cannot change after custom cell tint is completed. For the height, measure three times and use the shorter dimension. The size of the cells is important because it affects the depth of the window. A cellular screen is a little bulkier than a wooden blind. Some smaller sized shades are available in triple cells for maximum insulation. Sizes over one inch look cleaner but are available in single cell designs. Large pleats look like large slats on traditional blinds.
