Alfa Chemistry Catalysts: Porphyrin Ligands, Phthalocyanine Ligands Are Newly Re

Posted by Tylor on October 20th, 2021

With the development of coordination chemistry, the application of nitrogen-donor ligands has become more widespread. To meet the increasing demand arising from market and industry, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts announces the release of porphyrin ligands and phthalocyanine ligands, one type of nitrogen-donor ligands, for wide applications in fields like materials science, organic synthesis and biomedicine.

The porphyrin ligand is a planar, dianionic macrocycle with four nitrogen donors in a square planar arrangement, with a hole size of radius close to 2.0 Å. Phthalocyanine (Pc) molecules are macrocyclic compounds composed of an inner porphyrazine ring that connects four isoindole groups giving rise to the characteristic cross-like shape.

“Porphyrin ligands and phthalocyanine ligands are solids with higher melting points and darker colors. They are advantageous due to their relative stableness when exposed to light and heat. Another prominent chemical property is that they are able to react with metal ions to form complexes. Hence, porphyrin molecules and related derivatives such as phthalocyanines are fascinating building units to achieve functional porous materials,” says a spokesperson from Alfa Chemistry Catalysts.

Porphyrin Ligands and Phthalocyanine Ligands Applied in Material Chemistry:

Both porphyrin ligands and phthalocyanine ligands are very powerful in materials chemistry. They can be specially designed to serve purposes of energy conversion, optical communication, and data storage.

Metal complexes of phthalocyanine ligands with metals such as zinc and aluminum can be used as drugs for tumor photodynamic therapy. Porphyrin ligands and metal complexes have good affinity for many cancer cells, they can be selectively retained in tumor cells after being introduced into tumor cells.

Below are some of the porphyrin ligands and phthalocyanine ligands provided by Alfa Chemistry Catalysts:
