The Centre has solicited global bids in a huge boost to India’s green energy industry in the empire of ‘Aatmanirbhar’ Bharat. It plans to build greenfield giga-scale Advance Chemistry Cell (ACC) production plants in the country, with units expected to be operational in two years.

A copy of the bid document that was floated on October 22 is available to reporters. India’s ACC demand is now satisfied through imports, putting the country reliant on China and Taiwan for lithium-ion cells. The government is now looking for enterprises, either domestic or international, or a partnership, to carry out the project of establishing ACC manufacturing facilities. This will be performed to assure overall energy security for the entire nation in the future, as stated in the bid document.

ACCs are new latest technologies that are capable enough to store electric energy as chemical energy or as electrochemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when needed.

The Big Plan by ACC

The government said that ACC manufacturers will be selected through a transparent competitive bidding process. The manufacturing facility should be commissioned in 2 years and the incentive will be pay out over a period of 5 years by a cash subsidy.

There will be a direct investment of around Rs 45,000 crore in ACC Battery storage manufacturing projects by this project, says givernment. A Cabinet note on project says it will result in net savings of Rs. 2,00,000 crore to Rs.2,50,000 crore. This will be done due to a reduction in oil import bills during the program’s duration as a result of EV adoption as ACCs created under the program, which are projected to speed up EV adoption.

“The production of ACCs will help to increase demand for electric vehicles, which are much less polluting. The ACC program will play an important role in reducing India’s greenhouse gas emissions in the fight against climate change. The annual import substitution will be roughly Rs 20,000 crore, according to the cabinet paper.
