Reasons to Consider NCAA Sports LitigationPosted by athletedefendermia on December 8th, 2021 A young student can earn an athletic scholarship to pursue academics and sports at the same time is sure to consider oneself as being extremely lucky. Representing the school/college on the playing field is akin to a dream coming true. Unfortunately, many students find their dreams dashed to the ground for no fault of their own. It certainly helps to be informed about the outfalls well before signing any contract with NCAA. One must be aware that the agreement may or may not be renewed for the next term depending on the school\'s resources. Unfortunately, it is the coach who has the final word here. It is wise for the student-athlete and their parents to get NCAA athlete representation to ensure physical well-being and affordability of higher education based on an athletic scholarship. Many students feel lost in being denied a scholarship for the next academic year. This is a double whammy as the student-athlete does not prove prowess on the field and loses a precious academic year due to a lack of finances. It is essential to understand that merely signing a letter of intent to represent the institution does not guarantee a scholarship; one must sign an agreement that grants financial aid to the student in addition. The legal representative would be sure to read the contract between the institute and student carefully to note any discrepancies. Being injured on the field is no cause for discontinuing the scholarship. On the other hand, coaches have the right to stop paying the scholarship money if the student is injured elsewhere. Hearing the coach stating that the scholarship would not be provided to a few students can come as a devastating blow. Such occurrences are commonplace, especially when a particular athlete fails to perform repeatedly. This is a valid reason for cutting off financial aid to a student and recruiting new members of the team who are known for their performances. One may also lose the scholarship due to physical brawls and offenses off the field. The coach is expected to inform the student-athletes about a renewal of their scholarships or reduction/ non-renewal well in advance. The unexpected cessation of financial aid is certainly not the expected behavior. It becomes essential to consult with a lawyer here and research the reason behind such an action. Sure, the coach could be faulted for it, but the withdrawal of the scholarship can also occur when any misinformation comes to light. Submission of fake documents or providing misleading information may result in revoked financial aid. Sudden withdrawal from the team may also result in the cancelation of the scholarship. The concerned student can always file for reconsideration when there has been no violation of the NCAA rules. Multiple student-athletes and student bodies hold the NCAA responsible for unfair practices. Reducing the scholarship and denying transfer are a few of the common complaints that may result in NCAA sports litigation. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
