The Charpy Izod Pendulum Impact Tester is a high strain-rate test to control the amount of energy captivated by a substance fracture. How Is Izod Impact Testing Done?

You place the sample material on the Izod impact tester when you do this testing. The Izod test materials typically have V-notch cuts, and these notches act as a stress absorption region. It also comprises a pivoting arm raised at an altitude equivalent to the continuous potential energy. Then it releases, and the arm hits the substance placed on the impact taster.

Factors that impact Izod impact energy

  •          Notches – some substances are more delicate than others, and the range tip and deepness of the gap are essential.
  •          A notching machine is helpful to create this and is used for the cutting, shearing, or punching process on the sheet metal or thin bar stock.
  •          In some situations, a broaching machine is beneficial for removing the metal parts. It is ideal to do a keyhole or U-notch on the substance
  •          Fracture mechanism- This is the substance\'s capability to handle fracture or harm.
  •          Temperature and strain rate – Lower temperatures decrease the elasticity of the materials.
  •          Yield strength and flexibility – the impact energy of the substance reduces if the yield strength amplifies.
