The FE exam is for those who aspire to be engineers. The purpose of the course is to review the material of Fundamentals of Engineering exam. The amount covers registration, exam admission, scoring of the exam and distribution of the results and related materials. The exam is closed book and computer based. One cannot bring a book into the test centre. However, you can register for the exam from your home itself. All you need is a stable internet connection and the device.

Format of an FE exam

The paper comes with 110 questions. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Besides MCQ there are a handful of point and click, drag and drop, fill in the blank type questions. The exact passing score varies in different years. A 70% score is considered as standard passing marks.

Duration of an FE exam

You get 6 hours to complete the paper. It contains 110 multiple choice questions. A break, a brief survey and a tutorial are included under the 6 hours’ time period. Therefore, you get a total 5 hours 20 minutes to attend the exam.

What to Prepare for an FE exam

The biggest obstacle in FE exam preparation is learning a material you did not study in college. Experts suggest to learn to use the FE reference manual. It helps in searching through the manual during the online exam. Download the reference handbook from the NCEES website and get thoroughly familiar with it. Solve questions from the book of Michael R Lindeburg. The questions that show up in the actual exam is less difficult than the mentioned practice set.
