What is the procedure for GST registration?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax used in India on the supply of goods and services. GST is a multi-stage tax, charged at every point of supplying goods and services. GST has replaced many indirect taxes such as the Value Added Tax (VAT), service tax, central sales tax, additional customs duty, excise duty, and so on. All the businesses exceed more than Rs 40 lakh in a financial year is required to register as a normal taxable person. The process of registering a business entity in the regime of GST is known as GST registration. For the successful implementation of GST across the country all existing Central Excise and Service Tax assesses need to migrate to GST by doing their enrolment on the GST portal.

GST is mandatory for:

  • Businesses making inter-state outward supply of goods.
  • Companies with turnover of more than Rs 20 lakh (supply of services) and Rs 40 lakh (supply of goods) annually.
  • Brokers and agents, selling on behalf of taxable suppliers.
  • E-commerce sellers/aggregators if total sales are less than Rs 20 lakh

Documents Required For GST Registration

GST registration required a PAN card, proof of business registration, identity and address proof.  Here are checklists that need to be fulfilled in order to complete your registration.

Partnership firm (includes LLP)

  • PAN cards of all the partners
  • Bank Account details
  • A copy of your partnership deed
  • Authorised signatories and photographs of all partners
  • Any address proof of the partners (Aadhar Card, Passport, Voter Id, Driver\'s license etc.)
  • Aadhar card of an authorised signatory
  • Authorised signatory\'s proof of appointment
  • When an LLP, Board resolution and registration certificate of LLP

Sole Proprietorship/Individual

  • PAN card of the business owner
  • Bank Account details
  • Aadhar card of the business owner
  • Photograph of the business owner
  • Address proof

Public and Private Limited Company

  • PAN card of company
  • Bank account information
  • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs issued a certificate of incorporation.
  • Articles of Association / Memorandum of Association
  • Authorised signatory\'s PAN card and Aadhar card Even if a foreign company or branch is registered in India, the authorised signatory must be an Indian.
  • Address and PAN card proof of all the Company\'s directors
  • All directors and authorised signatories are photographed
  • Board resolution appointing authorised signatory / Any other proof of authorised signatory appointment
  • Address evidence of the principal place of business
