Isoamyl laurate is an ester formed by a reaction between isoamyl alcohol and lauric acid. It is a colorless, clear, oily liquid with moderately strong waxy fragrance. It also has peach-like fragrance.
It is primarily used as a fragrance ingredient. It is also used as an emollient. Since it contains lauric acid, which is beneficial for the skin. Generally, esters are fatty in nature and they provide moisturization to the skin. Isoamyl laurate forms a protective film on the skin or the hair, thereby protecting the skin from the environmental factors. Also, it does not let moisture evaporate from the skin and thereby, conditions the skin. It provides quick spread-ability and elegant, non-sticky, light and velvety skin feel. It has good miscibility with other surfactants.
