Things to Consider while Obtaining an Investment Visa in Hong Kong

As one of the largest international financial centers in the world, Hong Kong attracts many international companies seeking to establish a presence in Asia. The territory offers a special migration visa scheme for foreign entrepreneurs. This is a type of work permit allows business owners to become an ‘employee’ of their own companies in Hong Kong.

To be granted an investment visa, you have to prove that your business will make a positive impact to Hong Kong’s economy. When granted a visa, you will be allowed to bring your unmarried dependent children who are under the age of 18 as well as your spouse to Hong Kong. In due time, you will also be eligible to apply for as a permanent resident. The entrepreneur visa scheme is typically issued for an initial one-year period. This can then be renewed depending on the situation of your business in Hong Kong.

The Immigration Department does not specify a minimum investment requirement when it comes to entrepreneur’s visa but it is important that you have necessary documents. Here are some things to consider for your investment visa in Hong Kong :

  • Eligibility – You cannot have any security objections or criminal records. You should also have a good educational background or relevant experience, achievements, professional abilities or technical qualifications.

  • Company incorporation – The government of Hong Kong requires that your Hong Kong company is incorporated before you apply for an entrepreneur visa.

  • Business plan – A 2-year business plan is required for you to apply for an entrepreneur visa application. This should include details on your business service, product, or idea as well as a market analysis.

  • Capital investment – You should have enough money to cover the startup of your business as well as operation expenses for at least 3 to 6 months.

  • Sponsor – If your sponsor is a company, ask them to complete a sponsor application form and submit a business registration certificate. If your sponsor is an individual, he or she must supply the application form, a Hong Kong identity card, and a passport.
  • Business premises – The authorities will check if your proposed business premises will be suitable for your business activity. Make sure to include the copy or proposed tenancy agreement along with photos of the business premises.

Remember: A single mistake can make or break your investment visa. It pays to have a professional firm handle your entrepreneur visa application so you will have an easier time and have a bigger chance of being approved.
