Active@ LiveCD - an all-in-one backup, recovery, and security toolset

Active@ LiveCD is LSoft Technologies\' flagship product, including the full range of tools you need to back up your data, recover lost files, securely erase data, and more. Released on December 4, 2020, version 9 now includes a new operating environment based on openSUSE 15.2, Linux Kernel 5.3, and KDE 5.18. The latest versions of all the key software components are also included in the release, including KillDisk 13, File Recovery 21, Partition Recovery 21, and Password Changer 11. Moreover, the bootable media creator has been improved with various tweaks and bug fixes. It supports creation of a bootable optical disk or USB drive. This allows users to boot up into a fully self-contained operating environment that they can use even if the primary operating system is unworkable.
Included in this release are two powerful data recovery applications. These are Active@ File Recovery 21 and Active@ Partition Recovery 21. With the file recovery utility, it is possible to recover files from formatted disks and other storage media, as well as those that have been emptied from the recycle bin. It provides the best chances possible of successful recovery by exploiting the opportunity between when data has been deleted and when it gets permanently overwritten by a new file operation. This can happen at any time, but the sooner you act, the better. Because the recovery app runs from its own bootable storage media, it also lets you recover data from the primary system hard drive. This is important, since even booting your system up into your regular operating system can result in minor data operations that could permanently damage or delete the lost data. Active@ Partition Recovery 21 goes even further by letting users recover entire hard drive partitions and deleted volumes - a must if you have accidentally deleted or reconfigured your hard drive structure.
Alternatively, if your goal is to securely erase data, such as should be the case if you are thinking about donating or selling your old computer, then Active@ LiveCD has you covered. The included Active@ KillDisk utility securely erases all data on a drive by overwriting it with zeros in multiple passes. It meets the demands of almost two dozen internationally recognized data sanitization standards, including those used by the US Department of Defense. Securely deleting your data is very important if you are retiring any old data-bearing asset, such as a computer or individual storage device. Simply formatting the drive or emptying the recycle bin is not enough, and that is exactly why the counterpart of KillDisk, File Recovery, works.
Also included in this release is Password Changer 11, which allows Windows users to change and reset their local administrator passwords and other login credentials. With this powerful utility, they can modify user account privileges and reset passwords that they have forgotten. Although this can only work with local user accounts, it can come in very useful if you have not accessed the administrator account in a long time but need to so you can change certain system settings.
