AR-15 Modification for Beginners ? A Look at aftermarket AR-15 triggers and AR-1

So you just bought your first AR-15 and want get your feet wet in the world of gun mods! If you are anything like me, when you first started researching mods for your AR you probably had no clue if what the people trying to sell you is just fluff for your gun or even what brands to pick. Well lucky for you I'm here to help. So now let’s get started with what can prove to be a good option for your pocket and what is just fluff that does nothing for your gun when driving down range.

The first two items I would look at replacing would be the standard AR 15 Trigger and standard AR-15 handguard. The standard milspec trigger is good enough for having fun, but to really take it to the next step you will want to get an aftermarket trigger. Just speaking from experience this is the most important part to replace, so if you just want to make minor modifications to your AR I would recommend just replacing the trigger.

So, your standard AR-15 trigger has around 7–8 pounds of trigger weight. In theory it seems like a good weight, but in practice it can be a hassle when it comes to precision shooting. My personal recommended weight would be between 3–5 pounds, anything less could be potentially dangerous.

You don't want an AR-15 with a hair trigger just for the simple fact that it could misfire and hurt someone.

So let’s get started on brands! Brands brands brands! There are thousands of them and they all claim to be the best, but most of them are just like the rest. So let’s take a look at which ones are actually worth it.

Geissele

Geisselle is an all-round powerhouse of a brand. I haven't tried an AR-15 trigger from them that has disappointed me. They shoot smooth and are dependable. My personal favorite is the Geiselle Super Dynamic Combat Trigger SD-C 05-165; it's a real powerhouse of a trigger with a great weight to it.

Hipertouch

The Hipertouch 24 is my all-time favorite AR-15 Trigger. It's a low creep high octane beast of a trigger.

Coming with a user adjustable weight of 2–4 pounds, it can get any job done and the best part is how cheap it is! Coming in at only 180 dollars, it rivals the dependability and performance of high-end expensive triggers all the while being affordable.  AR 15 Barrels
