What is the difference between pressing and ironing a cloth?

Posted by Hello Laundry on January 16th, 2022

Although ironing and pressing are commonly used equally, they are two different methods. The ironing process is the back-and-forth sliding motion that most of us are experienced with and regularly use at home. Pressing the iron on the fabric, holding it there, and then removing it is pressing.

The ironing technique can damage the fabric of loosely woven fabrics like fitted shirts, suits, lined clothing, silks, or rayons. If you use steam, the fibres will move and stay in the new, unwanted shape. These fabrics require light pressing with heat and ironing up and down.

For many quilters, pressing without wrinkling the cloth is a difficult task. If you do not know how to iron clothes, hire a ironing service in London & Essex because they know the correct technique and skill.
