If you own a home that has a basement, then it may be a good idea to get a sump pump. If you already have one, it might be a good idea to know what it does. A sump pump is used to remove any water that has been deposited into your sump pit, which is found in your home's basement, the pit is basically a hole that is designed to collect water. The water may enter the pit through drains of a basement waterproof system or water may come when there is rain or even because of natural ground water. Sump pumps may not be found in all basements, but one would be installed if the basement has been a flood magnet. The sump pump is installed into a shallow pit and then covered up so you can't see it.

Then when a hurricane or a huge rainstorms comes through it will absorb the water before it can hit your floor, it pulls water from the basement and then sends it out away from the problem area. If you have a very old style home, your sump pump may be connected to a sanitary sewer. This would not be the way a sump would be installed into a basement today and it probably would not meet the plumbing code. Only in very old homes will you see this. Most Sewer Pump Replacement are hardwired into the house's electrical system and even have a battery backup in case of loss of power. One of the better sump pumps for your home is the Liberty Sump Jet. This is the plumbing industries newest pump machinery, it is water powered backup. It runs just on municipal water pressure. This pump requires no electricity or batteries. It will not fail in protecting your basement from flooding.

One problem with any type of pump is that they may overflow if they are not pumping all the time. The backup system is very important just in case the main power is out for a long time. There are two types of sump pumps, the pedestal pump which is commonly found in buildings and businesses and the submersible sump pump; these are commonly found in residential basements. If you want to keep your sump pumps working, here are some tips of how you can maintain them. Maintenance should be performed every 4 or 5 years. If you live in an area where flooding common maybe do the maintenance every one or two years. Make sure all the dirt, sludge, gravel or mud is removed from the pump.

A Well Pump Replacement which goes unclogged makes a pumps life very short, disconnect the valves and make sure there is so debris in there. Wash out the valves and if you wish wash out the entire pump, on e little bit of debris can take out your pump. Make sure you put it back together correctly, tighten all valves. Check pipes, make sure those are clear and then reconnect piping, check the float's operation. Make sure the float is in good working order. Test the pump once all part is cleaned, reassembled and tightened. Fill sump with water and plug in. Make sure the float is working. A stuck float will cause a pump not to work.
