Somatropin: A Protein Synthetic Hormone, Is Commonly Used To Induce Puberty

Somatropin, a protein synthetic hormone, is commonly used to induce puberty. High prevalence of growth hormone deficiency is driving force behind the demand for somatropin. The prevalence of growth hormone deficiency in children was 1.8 to 2.9 per 10,000 in Europe and the U.S, according to a study published in the Springer Nature in February 2017.

Somatropin, also called human growth hormone in its natural form, is basically a peptide hormone that promotes cell growth, cell generation, and cell regeneration in our body. In fact, it has been clinically proven that it can stimulate the production of growth hormones and supply energy to our cells. So it\'s very important in human growth. There are many benefits of somatropin and it is used to treat various health conditions such as increased muscle mass, decreased fat, increased stamina decreased cholesterol, and increase insulin sensitivity.

Growth hormone helps children grow taller and helps adults and children grow muscle. Such benefits have led to increasing approval and launch of various somatropin products by regulatory authorities such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In July 2018, Ferring Pharmaceuticals Inc. received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for ZOMACTON, a somatropin injection, for the following additional pediatric indications. Short stature due to Turner syndrome, Idiopathic short stature (ISS), and Short stature born small for gestational age (SGA) with no catch-up growth by 2 to 4 years.

Growth hormone (GH) first was isolated from the human pituitary gland in 1956. North America is expected to witness significant demand for somatropin with approval and launch of new products. In September 2020, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Sogroya (somapacitan) for adults with growth hormone deficiency. Sogroya is the first human growth hormone (hGH) therapy that adult patients only take once a week by injection under the skin; other FDA-approved hGH formulations for adults with growth hormone deficiency must be administered daily.

Various companies are focused on R&D of new products. In October 2020, Pfizer Inc., in partnership with OPKO Health Inc., reported results of a phase III trial assessing the efficacy of somatrogon dosed once-weekly in children 3 to <18 years of age with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). The study achieved its primary endpoint of improved treatment burden compared to GENOTROPIN (somatropin) for injection administered once-daily.

Somatropin is an effective drug for treating a variety of medical conditions. Because of its effectiveness, it is used by many patients who would otherwise not be able to take somatropin. Somatropin injections are given under the skin, usually into the muscle. The dosage depends on the condition being treated, so it is important to follow the directions carefully. It is important to keep the medicine at room temperature, so it does not cause any side effects.

The dosage of somatropin is determined by the condition being treated. Follow the instructions on the bottle and medication guide carefully. Somatropin injections are administered under the skin or into a muscle. Your healthcare provider will explain how to use the medicine. Make sure to follow the directions exactly. Do not try to inject somatropin yourself if you do not understand how to use it.
