ISO 29001 is the result of cooperation between the American Petroleum Institute and the ISO technical committee which describes the quality management system requirements for the design, development, production, installation, and service of products for the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries.

What is ISO 29001 standard?

ISO 29001 defines the quality management system for product and service supply organizations for petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industries. ISO 29001 requirements are similar to API Q1 system specifications, such as control features/documentation methods for conception, purchasing, training, and other fundamental company activities. The ISO 29001 standard is an extension of the internationally recognized ISO 9001 quality management systems standard. It contains additional requirements with an emphasis on defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste from service providers. These requirements have been developed discretely to ensure that they are clear and auditable. The ISO 29001 standard has been developed as a direct result of a partnership between ISO and the international oil and gas industry led by the American Petroleum Institute – API. ISO 29001 specifically attentions to the oil and gas supply chain. To assist users of the document, the requirements of ISO 9001 are tracked by specific guidance and supplementary requirements for its implementation within the industry. Although some of the additional requirements may be viewed as not specific to the oil and gas industry, they are needed in ISO 29001 to ensure that the requirements are clearer and can be more readily verified.

Why essential to implement ISO 29001 system?

It is important in a safety-critical industry, independent verification of the quality of the services, through ISO/TS 29001 certification demonstrates your commitment to quality to both clients and stakeholders. Not only does it cover systems and processes, but it also shows you care about your personnel and the public. Risk is inherent in the oil and gas industry. It is difficult conformity to engineering, user, and regulatory requirements are required in the industry that handles fluids, often at extremely high pressures, through a variety of products and processes. If the dangerous liquids and gases are injured or improperly managed, they can inflict terrible damage to people and the environment. Also, manage proper ISO 29001 documents with all important procedures, which can easily follow by the staff.  Attentions to the safety of personnel are major important. Protection of the environment and the public require a high level of operational integrity. Complicating matters, oil and gas industry equipment and service providers are dispersed globally, and many operate in underdeveloped countries with very different cultural approaches. Adherence to ISO 29001 ensures better business continuity and should assist in the mitigation of effective risks as a result of products being in full conformance with specifications and regulations.

What are the benefits of implementing the ISO 29001 System?

  • It helps to improve the ability to gain a license to trade, resulting in increased contracts and prospects
  • Build the trust of stakeholders and customers on the commitment to quality and best practices
  • It also helps for better risk management and increased performance
  • It makes efficient operations that expand the quality and reduce waste
  • Also, making continual improvements having resulted from improved communication and regular assessment

What are the principles of the ISO 29001 standard?

ISO 29001 is based on the quality management principles that can be used by the organization to improve performance.

  • Customer attention: For companies to succeed, they must understand and anticipate their customers\\\' needs, meet their requirements, and exceed their expectations.
  • Enhancement: Organizations should strive to improve their overall performance continuously.
